01 / Brand by brand

Brand by brand: what each is best for

Levoit

Best value. The lowest prices of the three, AHAM certification across the range, and no ion generator in these models. Trade-off: the Core 300 and Vital 200S draw more power for their size than the Blueairs (55.4 W and 52.4 W vs 29.6 W).[1][7]

  1. Levoit Core 300 · $84.99143 smoke CADR · 222 sq ft (AHAM) · filters about $45/yr · power about $91/yr. Full review.
  2. Levoit Vital 200S · $189.99250 smoke CADR · 388 sq ft (AHAM) · filters about $67/yr · power about $86/yr. Full review.
  3. Levoit Core 600S · $269.99391 smoke CADR · 606 sq ft (AHAM) · filters about $60/yr · power about $108/yr. Full review.

Blueair

Most clean air per watt. Both are AHAM-certified and ENERGY STAR, and the 311i Max costs the least to run of the 8. Trade-off: Blueair says its filters last up to 9 months, so a year of filters is about $60 (311i Max) or $93 (211i Max). AHAM lists an ion generator.[1][6]

  1. Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max · $229283 smoke CADR · 439 sq ft (AHAM) · filters about $60/yr · power about $49/yr. Full review.
  2. Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max · $349435 smoke CADR · 674 sq ft (AHAM) · filters about $93/yr · power about $73/yr. Full review.

Coway

Coway is not in AHAM's directory. Its newer Airmega 350 and 450 are ENERGY STAR certified; the best-selling Mighty is on neither list. Trade-off: the Mighty draws 77 W, the most of the 8, and its numbers are Coway's own.[2][3][4][5]

  1. Coway Airmega Mighty (AP-1512HH) · $229.99233 smoke CADR · 361 sq ft (Coway's figures) · filters about $45/yr · power about $127/yr. Full review.
  2. Coway Airmega 350 · $339360 smoke CADR · 558 sq ft (ENERGY STAR) · filters about $89/yr · power about $97/yr. All Coway models.
  3. Coway Airmega 450 · $499443 smoke CADR · 687 sq ft (ENERGY STAR) · filters about $109/yr · power about $109/yr. All Coway models.

02 / Room size

Room size: the certified number vs the box

AHAM's room size is the room a purifier cleans about 4.8 times an hour, enough for smoke and pollen. The number on an Amazon title is a room cleaned once an hour. Buy on the certified number.

  1. 311i Max: the title says up to 2,107 sq ft.AHAM certifies 439 sq ft, 4.8 times smaller.[1]
  2. Vital 200S: the title says up to 1,875 sq ft.AHAM certifies 388 sq ft, 4.8 times smaller.[1]
  3. Mighty: the title says up to 1,748 sq ft.Coway rates it for 361 sq ft, 4.8 times smaller.[3]
  4. Airmega 350: the title says up to 2,640 sq ft.ENERGY STAR certifies 558 sq ft, 4.7 times smaller.[2]

03 / Filters

Filter cost per year

Filter cost per year is each maker's genuine filter on Amazon today, at the filter life the maker gives (the same count our review pages use). Change it sooner, for smoke or pets, and it costs more.[6][7][3][4][11]

  1. Core 300: about $45 a year.Filter $25.99 on Amazon. Levoit: 6 to 8 months. Counted as 7 months.
  2. Mighty: about $45 a year.Filter $44.99 on Amazon. Coway: HEPA 1 year, carbon 6 months; the set has 1 HEPA and 2 carbon.
  3. 311i Max: about $60 a year.Filter $44.99 on Amazon. Blueair: up to 9 months. Counted as 9 months.
  4. Core 600S: about $60 a year.Filter $59.99 on Amazon. Levoit: 6 to 12 months. Counted as 12 months.
  5. Vital 200S: about $67 a year.Filter $49.99 on Amazon. Levoit: 6 to 12 months. Counted as 9 months.
  6. Airmega 350: about $89 a year.Filter $89 on Amazon. Coway: 1+ year. Counted as 12 months.
  7. 211i Max: about $93 a year.Filter $69.99 on Amazon. Blueair: up to 9 months. Counted as 9 months.
  8. Airmega 450: about $109 a year.Filter $109 on Amazon. Coway: 1+ year. Counted as 12 months.

So no brand is cheapest on filters across the board. Levoit's small Core 300 is the cheapest ($45), and Coway's Mighty is close ($45). The big-room models cost the most: Coway's Airmega 450 ($109) and 350 ($89), and the Blueair 211i Max ($93). Filter schedules, model by model.

04 / Power

Power cost per year, and two years to own

Power cost per year is the certified watts (Coway's own for the Mighty), running all day at 18.83¢ per kWh. The Blueair 311i Max costs about $49 a year. The Vital 200S is about $86, and the Coway Mighty about $127, the most of the 8.[1][2][3]

Over two years, price + filters + power: the Vital 200S is about $463, the 311i Max about $417 and the Mighty about $529. The cheapest to own of the 8 is the Core 300 ($346), for a small room.[11]

05 / Noise

Noise: is Blueair really quieter?

ChatGPT says Blueair is often especially quiet. On paper, the brands are close. Each maker's lowest setting: Blueair 23 dB for both models; Levoit 24 dB (Core 300), 23 dB (Vital 200S) and 26 dB (Core 600S); Coway 24 dB (Mighty), 21.5 dB (Airmega 350) and 23.6 dB (Airmega 450).[6][7][3][4][5]

These are the makers' own figures, not a common test. A bigger purifier on a low speed is quieter than a small one on high, so size up for a bedroom.

06 / Ionizers

Ionizers and HEPA

  1. Blueair: an ion generator.Blueair calls its filter HEPASilent: a fabric filter plus an electric charge, not True HEPA. AHAM's directory lists both Blueairs as a fan filter with an ion generator. ENERGY STAR measured the 311i Max at 2 ppb of ozone; its limit is 50 ppb.[1][2]
  2. Levoit: none in these three.AHAM lists the Core 300, Vital 200S and Core 600S as a fan with a filter. (Some other Levoit versions, like the Core 300S-P, have an ion generator.)[1]
  3. Coway: the Mighty has one; the 350 and 450 do not.Coway's spec list for the Mighty includes “a bipolar device”, an ionizer. ENERGY STAR lists the Airmega 350 and 450 as fan and filter, with 0 ppb ozone.[3]

Wirecutter says to turn ionizers off, and Consumer Reports does not recommend ionizing purifiers. For nothing electronic in the air path, buy a Levoit or Coway's 350 or 450.[8][9]

07 / Certification

Who certifies the numbers

AHAM, the appliance makers' group, tests and lists CADR and room size. Levoit and Blueair are in its directory; Coway has no models in it.[1]

ENERGY STAR certifies CADR, room size and efficiency for Coway's Airmega 350 and 450, both Blueairs and the Core 600S. The Mighty is on neither list.[2]

So for the Mighty, the CADR and room size are Coway's own, and we label them that way everywhere on this site.[3]

09 / Questions

Frequently asked

Which is better, Blueair, Levoit or Coway?
For most rooms, Levoit: the Vital 200S is AHAM-certified for 388 sq ft, has no ion generator and cost $189.99 on November 4, 2026. Blueair costs the least to run (311i Max, about $49 a year). Coway's Airmega 350 is a good big-room buy; its Mighty is rated only by Coway.
Is Coway better than Levoit?
For the same job, they are close. Coway rates the Mighty 233 smoke CADR for 361 sq ft; AHAM certifies the Levoit Vital 200S at 250 for 388 sq ft. On November 4, 2026 the Mighty was $229.99 and the Vital $189.99. The Vital's numbers are certified; the Mighty's are Coway's own.
Is Blueair quieter than Levoit and Coway?
Not on paper. Each maker's lowest setting: Blueair 23 dB, Levoit 23 dB (Vital 200S), Coway 24 dB (Mighty) and 21.5 dB (Airmega 350). These are the makers' figures, not a shared test.
Which brand has the cheapest filters?
Per year, Levoit's Core 300 ($45) and Coway's Mighty ($45). For a mid-size room, the Blueair 311i Max ($60) and Levoit Vital 200S ($67) are close. The big-room models cost the most: the Coway Airmega 450 ($109), Blueair 211i Max ($93) and Coway Airmega 350 ($89).
Do Blueair, Levoit and Coway purifiers have ionizers?
AHAM lists both Blueairs with an ion generator, and Coway lists one in the Mighty. The Levoit Core 300, Vital 200S and Core 600S and Coway's Airmega 350 and 450 have none.
Is Blueair True HEPA?
No. Blueair calls its filter HEPASilent: a fabric filter plus an electric charge. AHAM lists it as a fabric filter. Its certified CADR is still high; that is what tells you how fast it cleans.
Is Coway AHAM certified?
Coway has no models in AHAM's directory. ENERGY STAR certifies the Airmega 350 and 450 (and other Airmegas). The best-selling Mighty is on neither list, so its numbers are Coway's own.
Which is best for a large room?
The Levoit Core 600S: AHAM certifies it for 606 sq ft at $269.99. For an even bigger open plan, the Blueair 211i Max (674 sq ft, $349) or the Coway Airmega 450 (687 sq ft, $499).

Method

We did not test these purifiers. Every CADR and room size is AHAM's or ENERGY STAR's certified record, or Coway's own figure where neither lists the model, labelled each time.

Models: the one ChatGPT names for each brand, plus each brand's other best sellers that our Levoit and Coway pages and review pages already cover.
